Apple’s iPhone Mirroring [still isn’t available in the EU](https://support.apple.com/en-us/120421). Apple hasn’t given a date, and it has only [told reporters](https://www.macrumors.com/2025/06/18/apple-on-iphone-mirroring-still-not-in-eu/) that the feature is held back by regulatory uncertainty there.

You’ll find guides that suggest moving your Apple Account to the US. Before you try that, read [Apple’s own checklist](https://support.apple.com/en-us/118283): you have to spend your account balance, cancel some subscriptions, leave Family Sharing in some cases and redownload content that may not exist in the new region. That’s a lot to give up for one Mac feature.

These are the other ways to use your iPhone from a Mac in the EU, and what each one can’t do.

| Option | Good for | What it can’t do |
| ---------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **AirPlay** | Showing your iPhone screen on your Mac, wirelessly | You can’t click or type on the phone from the Mac. |
| **QuickTime Player** | Recording your iPhone screen over a cable | Same: it shows the phone, you still operate it by hand. |
| **Phone-control apps** | Using the iPhone with your Mac’s mouse and keyboard | You still do every step yourself. |
| **Switch Control** | Apple’s accessibility route to operating an iPhone from a Mac | Ordinary point-and-click use. It’s slow for everyday tasks. |
| **Appium** | Automated app testing by developers | Everyday use. It needs Xcode and Developer Mode on the phone. |
| **Zeptap** | Giving your AI agent your iPhone, so it can do phone tasks for you | Work without the phone connected to your Mac. |

If you’d rather have the phone work done for you than do it from a bigger screen, [skip to Zeptap](#give-your-ai-agent-an-iphone).

## AirPlay

AirPlay sends your iPhone screen to your Mac over Wi-Fi. It’s free, built in, and it’s what Apple’s own support page suggests for EU users. Use it to show photos to the room or present an app in a meeting.

**How to set it up**

1. Connect the iPhone and Mac to the same Wi-Fi network.
2. On the Mac, turn on **AirPlay Receiver** in System Settings. Searching Settings for “AirPlay” finds it fastest.
3. On the iPhone, open Control Center, tap **Screen Mirroring** and choose your Mac.

**What it can’t do:** AirPlay is view-only. Apple calls it a way to “view but not interact with” your iPhone screen, so every tap still happens on the phone. Apple’s [AirPlay guide](https://support.apple.com/en-us/102661) lists which Macs can receive it.

## QuickTime Player

QuickTime Player is on every Mac and can show and record a connected iPhone’s screen. Use it to make a tutorial, or to show a support team exactly where an app goes wrong.

**How to set it up**

1. Plug the iPhone into the Mac with a USB cable.
2. Open QuickTime Player and choose **File → New Movie Recording**.
3. In the menu next to the Record button, choose your iPhone, then press Record.

**What it can’t do:** like AirPlay, it only shows the screen. You operate the phone by hand, and the cable stays connected. [Apple’s QuickTime guide](https://support.apple.com/guide/quicktime-player/record-a-movie-qtp356b55534/mac) covers the recording options.

## Phone-control apps

Some Mac apps show the iPhone screen and pass your [mouse clicks and keystrokes to the phone](https://toolbunch.com/screenmirror/). This is the closest match to iPhone Mirroring: you can reply to a message or clear a notification without picking up the phone.

**How to set it up**

1. Pick an app whose listing says it works without Apple’s iPhone Mirroring. Some tools only build on Apple’s mirroring window, so in the EU they hit the same restriction.
2. Follow that developer’s setup steps, which differ from app to app.

**What it can’t do:** these apps move the controls to your Mac, but every tap, search and message is still yours to make.

## Switch Control

[Switch Control](https://support.apple.com/en-us/118667) is a free Apple accessibility feature that lets a Mac operate a nearby iPhone. It’s designed for people who find a touchscreen hard to use.

**How to set it up**

1. Sign the iPhone and Mac in to the same Apple Account and the same Wi-Fi network.
2. Turn on Switch Control on the Mac.
3. In the Switch Control Home panel, open **Devices**, select your iPhone and choose **Connect**.

**What it can’t do:** you don’t point and click. Switch Control highlights items one after another and you press a switch or key to select one. It works for its purpose, but it’s slow for everyday use.

## Appium

[Appium](https://appium.github.io/appium-xcuitest-driver/latest/getting-started/device-setup/) is a developer tool for automated app testing. It can drive a real iPhone, move between apps and repeat scripted steps as often as you like.

**How to set it up**

1. Install Xcode on the Mac.
2. Turn on Developer Mode on the iPhone.
3. Install and sign Appium’s helper app on the phone, then write your test scripts.

**What it can’t do:** it isn’t made for using your own phone day to day. On a free Apple account, the helper app’s signing profile [expires after seven days](https://developer.apple.com/help/account/basics/about-your-developer-account), so you re-sign it every week. That’s fine on a test phone, less so on the one with your banking app.

## Give your AI agent an iPhone

AI agents now come with their own computer. OpenAI’s ChatGPT agent [does tasks “using its own computer”](https://openai.com/index/introducing-chatgpt-agent/). Meta’s Muse [runs on “its own dedicated computer in the cloud”](https://about.fb.com/news/2026/09/introducing-muse-personal-ai-agent/). xAI’s launch post for Grok Bot says plainly that [“Bots have their own computer.”](https://x.ai/news/introducing-grok-bot)

Those computers come with a browser. But a lot of what you do every day happens in apps on your iPhone, and many of those apps have no website or API an agent can use. Think of the gym class you can only book in an app, the delivery you track in another, or the app you’re building and need to test.

Your agent should be able to use your iPhone too. [Zeptap](https://zeptap.com/) makes that possible. You give the agent you already use, such as Claude Code or Codex, access to your own iPhone, then tell it what you want in plain words. It opens the apps, taps, scrolls and types the way you would, and you can watch every step on your Mac.

**How to set it up**

1. [Install Zeptap](https://zeptap.com/docs/get-started/install) on your Mac.
2. Plug your iPhone in with a USB cable and pair it over Bluetooth.
3. Sign in to Claude or ChatGPT in Zeptap’s built-in chat, or connect the agent you already use.
4. Describe a task.

Start with something small. Say your family WhatsApp group had a busy weekend:

> Read my family WhatsApp group since Friday and tell me if anyone asked me something.

The agent opens WhatsApp, scrolls back to Friday and reads the chat. You get the handful of messages that need a reply and skip the rest.

It gets more useful when a task runs across apps. Plans get made in WhatsApp but belong in Calendar:

> Check the dates people suggested for Mum’s birthday dinner against my Calendar and tell me which ones I’m free.

Or that recipe you screenshotted months ago and never cooked:

> Find the chickpea curry recipe screenshot in Photos and add the ingredients to my Shopping list in Reminders.

You don’t need to connect these apps to each other first. The agent moves between them the same way you would.

If an app asks for a login, a code or your approval, the agent asks you. For more ideas, see our [guide to AI agents on a real iPhone](https://zeptap.com/blog/ai-agent-real-iphone).

## What Zeptap does differently

Most ways of letting software drive an iPhone were built for developers testing their own apps. Zeptap is meant for the phone you actually carry.

### No Xcode, no Developer Mode, nothing to re-sign

You don’t need an Apple Developer account, nothing is installed on the iPhone and Developer Mode stays off. Because there’s no helper app on the phone, there’s nothing to re-sign next week either. The [setup guide](https://zeptap.com/docs/get-started/setup) walks through the connection.

### Your apps and accounts are already there

The agent works on your phone as it is, with the apps you’ve installed and the accounts you’re already signed in to. There’s nothing to recreate or sync.

You also skip the usual integration work. Getting an AI to work with an app normally means finding an official API, paying for it if one exists, and setting up a connector for each app. Most of the apps on your phone don’t offer one at all. Zeptap doesn’t need them, because the agent uses each app through its screen. Your normal app subscriptions still apply.

That’s why one request can start in a chat and finish in Calendar, or start with a photo and end up in Reminders.

### Use your Claude or ChatGPT subscription

Zeptap’s built-in chat runs on the subscription you already pay for:

* [**Claude Pro or Max**](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/11145838-use-claude-code-with-your-pro-or-max-plan), through Claude Code
* [**A ChatGPT plan**](https://help.openai.com/en/articles/11369540-using-codex-with-your-chatgpt-plan), through Codex, with limits that depend on the plan
* **Your own OpenRouter key**, for a compatible model

If you already work with an agent on your Mac, such as Claude Desktop, Cursor, Hermes or OpenClaw, you can [connect it to Zeptap over MCP](https://zeptap.com/docs/agents/connect) instead. You keep the conversation where you planned the task and add the phone to it. A new chat inside Zeptap starts fresh and doesn’t bring in history from another app.

Your plan’s usage limits still apply, and there are no Zeptap credits to buy on top.

### It works independently of Apple’s EU-restricted feature

Zeptap doesn’t use iPhone Mirroring, so the EU restriction doesn’t affect it. It works the same in Berlin as it does in Boston.

That matters because Apple’s other cross-app feature is missing too. Siri AI, which can take actions across apps, [isn’t available on iPhones in the EU](https://www.macrumors.com/2026/10/13/apple-homeview-wont-be-available-in-eu/), and Apple hasn’t given a date.

You need a Mac on **macOS 14 or later** and an iPhone on **iOS 15 or later**. Some apps need a newer iOS version of their own. The iPhone stays plugged into your Mac while the agent uses it.

### You choose the AI provider and control unlocking

Your screenshots don’t pass through Zeptap’s servers. They go from your Mac to the AI you connected, and that provider handles them under its own terms. If you’re asking an agent to read your messages or photos, that provider’s terms are the ones to check. The [privacy guide](https://zeptap.com/docs/reference/privacy) has the details.

Unlocking is your call. If you allow it, the agent can unlock the phone when a task needs it without ever seeing your passcode, which stays in your Mac’s Keychain. You can switch this off for each iPhone. Apple’s iPhone Mirroring works the other way and keeps the phone locked while you use it from the Mac. Read [how unlocking works](https://zeptap.com/docs/features/lock-and-unlock).

## More than an iPhone Mirroring alternative

AirPlay and QuickTime put your iPhone on a bigger screen. Phone-control apps and Switch Control let you operate it from your Mac. In all of them, you’re still the one doing the work. With Zeptap, you describe the job and your agent does it.

| Option | What it does well | What Zeptap adds |
| ---------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **AirPlay or QuickTime** | Shows or records your iPhone screen. | An agent that works inside the apps. |
| **Phone-control apps** | Let you use the phone from your Mac. | You hand over the task instead of doing it yourself. |
| **Appium** | Runs automated tests and scripted workflows. | Agent access without Xcode, Developer Mode or a signed helper app. |
| **Apple’s iPhone Mirroring** | Wireless use of your iPhone, where it’s available. | Works in the EU and connects to your own agent. |

The easiest way to judge it is to try a job you’ve been putting off. Connect your iPhone, describe the task and watch your agent work through it. **Your first hour of live use is free.**

If you keep using it, Zeptap is a one-time purchase: **$99 for one iPhone, or $199 for up to five at once**. There’s no monthly Zeptap fee and no Zeptap AI credits to top up. Your AI provider’s plan and limits still apply. [See current pricing](https://zeptap.com/#pricing).
