# Use your own AI account

> Connect Zeptap's chat to a Claude subscription, a ChatGPT subscription (via Codex) or an OpenRouter API key - setup steps, where credentials are stored, and status fixes.

Zeptap's [chat](/features/chat) runs on an AI account you already have, and you pay that provider directly: nothing extra when a subscription covers it. Set up any or all of the three in **Settings (⌘,) › Agents** (also a step of first-run setup), then switch between them from the model picker under the message box.

## Setup [#setup]

Each option is done when its card in **Settings › Agents** shows **Connected**.

    Runs Anthropic's official **Claude Code** CLI on the Mac, signed in to your Claude account. If `claude` is already signed in on this Mac, the card shows **Connected** straight away.

    1. Open **Settings › Agents › Claude Code**.
    2. On **Not installed**, click **Install Claude Code** (Anthropic's installer).
    3. Click **Sign In**; the browser opens Claude's sign-in page.
    4. Sign in, paste the code the browser shows into **Paste the code from your browser**, and click **Submit**.

    **Switch Account** signs in with a different account.

    Runs OpenAI's official **Codex** CLI on the Mac, signed in to your ChatGPT account. If `codex` is already signed in on this Mac, the card shows **Connected** straight away.

    1. Open **Settings › Agents › Codex**.
    2. On **Not installed**, click **Install Codex** (the official release from OpenAI).
    3. Click **Sign In**; the browser opens ChatGPT's sign-in page. Sign in and return to Zeptap.

    Zeptap calls OpenRouter's API directly with your key; there is no CLI.

    1. Create a key at [openrouter.ai/settings/keys](https://openrouter.ai/settings/keys) and add credit to the OpenRouter account.
    2. Open **Settings › Agents › OpenRouter**, paste the key, and click **Save**.

    Zeptap checks the key with OpenRouter, then shows the key's label and, for a key with a spending limit, the credit left. **Remove Key** deletes it from the Mac.

    The model picker shows a few featured models first; **More models** opens the full list, newest first, with search and each model's price. The list holds only models that both call tools and read screenshots, the two things the agent needs to use the phone.

      Every step of an OpenRouter chat sends a screenshot, and a request can run up to 60 steps before Zeptap pauses it (send another message to continue). A credit limit on the key in OpenRouter caps what a long run can spend.

## Where credentials live [#where-credentials-live]

Zeptap sends the OpenRouter key only to OpenRouter; agents and the MCP server never see it. Screenshots and messages go only to the provider in use, under its terms.
