# Set up an iPhone

> The first-run assistant, step by step - permissions, USB and Trust, screen check, Bluetooth pairing and agent connectors.

The setup assistant opens on first launch. Run it again any time from **Settings (⌘,) › Preferences › Run setup again**. Each step advances on its own once its condition is met.

    ### Grant Mac permissions [#grant-mac-permissions]

    Allow **Camera** (to see the iPhone screen over USB) and **Bluetooth** (to tap and type on it). macOS remembers both for Zeptap.

    ### Plug in the iPhone and tap Trust [#plug-in-the-iphone-and-tap-trust]

    Connect the iPhone with a USB cable and unlock it. When the iPhone asks **Trust This Computer?**, tap **Trust** and enter the passcode.

    Over USB, Zeptap reads the iPhone's name, model and Bluetooth address, so the phone on the cable is the phone it controls. It also turns AssistiveTouch on if it is off.

    ### Check the screen [#check-the-screen]

    Keep the iPhone plugged in and unlocked while Zeptap confirms it can see the screen. The step completes when the live mirror shows the iPhone's screen.

    ### Pair over Bluetooth [#pair-over-bluetooth]

    If Bluetooth is off on the Mac, Zeptap offers to turn it on. Then, on the iPhone:

    1. Open **Settings › Bluetooth**.
    2. Tap this Mac's name under **Other Devices**.
    3. If the Mac asks to pair, click **Connect** on the Mac and **Pair** on the iPhone.

    The step completes when Zeptap shows **Connected to** the iPhone and can move the pointer. This is the only step done on the iPhone, and it is needed once per iPhone.

    Zeptap lists the supported agents installed on this Mac. Click **Add** for each one you use. See [Connect an agent](/agents/connect) for what each button changes and for manual setup.

## Recommended iPhone settings [#recommended-iphone-settings]

These are optional, and make agent runs steadier:

| Setting on the iPhone                                                                | Why                                                                                                      |
| ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Settings › Display & Brightness › Auto-Lock › Never**                              | The screen stays on through long agent runs. Zeptap can also keep the screen awake from its own settings |
| **Settings › Accessibility › Touch › AssistiveTouch**, turn off **Always Show Menu** | Hides the AssistiveTouch button so it covers less of the screen                                          |

## Add another iPhone [#add-another-iphone]

Choose **Pair a New iPhone…** from **Settings › Phones**, then plug the new iPhone in and follow the same steps. Zeptap controls the iPhone that is on the USB cable.
