## Zeptap vs TapKit at a glance

TapKit ([tapkit.ai](https://www.tapkit.ai)) and Zeptap solve the same job: an AI agent sees, taps and types on a real iPhone in your own signed-in apps. The difference is mostly how you pay and where your data travels.

**Choose Zeptap if** you want to pay once, send screenshots only to your own AI provider, and run up to 5 iPhones from your Mac.

## What Zeptap does that TapKit doesn't

### nothing leavesyour Mac.

No account, no Zeptap cloud. The MCP server only listens on this Mac, and screenshots go straight to the AI you picked.

TapKit: Your screen goes through its US servers, and stays there until you ask.

* Commands, screenshots and live streams from your phone are processed on its servers in the United States.
* Screenshots and run histories don't expire on their own. Deleting them is a manual request.
* That covers whatever is on screen during a run: messages, contacts, sign-in codes and payment details.
* Screenshots go on to Anthropic and OpenAI as its subprocessors, not through your own AI account.

Source: [Its data processing agreement, updated September 12, 2026](https://www.tapkit.ai/dpa)

* ### bring your own AI.no credits to buy.
The built-in chat runs on the Claude or ChatGPT plan you already pay for, or an OpenRouter key. Or connect Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or any MCP client.

**TapKit:** Its built-in agent runs on a hosted model, and agents need an active subscription.
* ### it unlocks your phone.only if you say so.
The passcode lives in your Keychain, never in iCloud, and never reaches the agent. One attempt per unlock, and you can switch it off per phone.

**TapKit:** Its setup asks for Auto-Lock set to Never, and its docs say it can't enter the passcode.

## What it costs over a year

TapKit charges $49 per iPhone each month. Zeptap Lifetime is one payment.

| Phones | TapKit, 12 months | Zeptap Lifetime | Zeptap costs less from |
| --------- | ---------------------- | --------------- | ------------------------------------- |
| 1 iPhone | $49 × 12 = **$588** | **$99** once | Month 3 (TapKit reaches $147) |
| 5 iPhones | $245 × 12 = **$2,940** | **$149** once | Month 1 (TapKit’s first bill is $245) |

In year one that is $489 less for one iPhone and $2,791 less for five. Prefer monthly? Zeptap is $25 a month for one iPhone against TapKit’s $49\. Zeptap’s prices are introductory, so check [pricing](https://zeptap.com/pricing) before you buy. Your AI plan is billed separately with either tool.

## Where Zeptap is different

### Pay once, keep it

One payment covers one iPhone ($99) or five ($149), with updates and no renewals.

> Open Instagram on each of my iPhones and list unanswered DMs per account.

### Your screen stays between you and your AI

Screenshots go straight to the provider you chose, never through Zeptap’s servers. Your passcode stays on your Mac. [Privacy](https://zeptap.com/docs/reference/privacy)

> Check my WhatsApp for questions I haven’t answered and draft replies.

### No account, no cloud relay

There’s no Zeptap account: your license key arrives by email. Agents connect to a local server on your Mac, so your phone’s commands never pass through a vendor’s cloud. [Connection guide](https://zeptap.com/docs/agents/connect)

> Open our TestFlight build and go through sign-up. Tell me where it breaks.

## When TapKit is the better pick

* **You’re building a product on it**TapKit has a REST API and a Python SDK; Zeptap has neither.
* **Your team works from a browser**TapKit’s web app shows shared iPhones, even ones plugged into another Mac.
* **You need 6 or 7 phones on one Mac**TapKit runs up to 7; Zeptap tops out at 5.
* **You want a hosted OAuth MCP endpoint**rather than a local server.

## Switch to Zeptap in 3 steps

1. **Download Zeptap** for your Mac (macOS 14 or later).
2. **Plug in your iPhone and pair it.** Zeptap walks you through it; nothing goes on the phone.
3. **Ask your agent.** Use Zeptap’s built-in chat, or connect Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or any MCP client in **Settings › Connectors**.

## questions?

The [docs](https://zeptap.com/docs) go deeper, and they're written for agents to read too.

Is TapKit free?

TapKit’s pricing page lists no free plan. One iPhone is $49 a month and five are $245 a month, and you can cancel anytime. No trial is stated, and agents only control phones on an active subscription. Zeptap gives you the first hour of live use before you buy.

How much does TapKit cost?

TapKit costs $49 per iPhone per month: $49 for one phone, $245 for five, and the same rate per phone for larger fleets. Over a year that is $588 for one iPhone or $2,940 for five.

Is there a TapKit alternative without a subscription?

Zeptap is a TapKit alternative without a subscription. Lifetime is $99 once for one iPhone or $149 once for up to five, and a $25 monthly plan exists if you prefer it. [See pricing](https://zeptap.com/pricing)

Do TapKit and Zeptap need anything installed on the iPhone?

Neither installs anything on the iPhone. Both skip jailbreaks, Developer Mode and Xcode, and both run from a Mac app with your iPhone plugged in.

Can I run more than five iPhones?

Zeptap runs up to five iPhones at once with Lifetime Plus. TapKit supports up to seven per Mac, so pick TapKit if you need six or seven.

Is TapKit the same as the Tapkit QR code platform?

No. This page compares TapKit at tapkit.ai, the Mac app for AI agents on iPhones. A separate London company, Tapkit ([tapkit.com](https://tapkit.com)), makes QR code campaigns.
